Welcome readers. My name is Jakob March, in 2025 I am a year 2 student in the Bachelor of Education Program at the University of Victoria. I believe teaching is one of the most important jobs there are. We as teachers have an enormous responsibility, to not only believe and uplift all of our students, but to assist in bringing up the future generation of learners. I connect deeply with the first principle in the First Peoples Principles of Learning, where it states learning ultimately supports the well-being of the self, the family, the community, the land, the spirits, and the ancestors. This indigenous ideology that learning is for everyone, and benefits everyone, is something I believe firmly in my core. As teachers, if we can instill positive morals in the students from a young age, and remain as that role model they can look up to, the impact we can have on our communities is exponential. Mentoring the students to be good people, to help one another, and to be kind individuals are so important, especially at an age as young as elementary school. The experiences children go through during these formative years will impact the way they perceive, and go through life, and as teachers, if we can do our best to guide them in the right direction, I believe we’ve done our job which is to best set them up for life.
In preparation for building this site, I have completed the Supporting the Inclusion of Students with Complex Needs course (certificate below).
